Driftwood Restaurant
Driftwood got its name from the abundance of driftwood located at picturesque Ralphs Bay, which is close to where the restaurant is situated at 13 North Terrace, Lauderdale. Driftwood is an intimate 80 seat venue offering a fantastic view and a contemporary Australian menu. The menu has an emphasis on fresh, seasonal and local produce. Some of which even comes from the private gardens of friends and family.

The Head Chef and Owner of Driftwood, Stephen Hickman, began as a chef in Tasmania. After completing his apprenticeship here, Stephen went on to become a Commis Chef at Café Sydney in 2001. In 2003, Stephen then moved to Garfish Kirribilli as a Sous Chef for two years. In 2005, Stephen decided to broaden his cooking experience and went on a working holiday. For two years, Stephen cooked his way through Canada and the UK. Upon return to Australia, Stephen took up the Head Chef position back at Garfish Kirribilli. After two years in this position Stephen headed for home, taking up the Head Chef position at The New Sydney Hotel in 2009. After The New Sydney Hotel, Stephen went on to spend quite a few years at Hotel Grand Chancellor before opening Driftwood Restaurant in December 2016.

While you’re sitting and watching the weather change, or the ducks swim by. Chef recommends trying the house smoked meat plate, consisting of mouth-watering Venison, King Island Beef, Salmon and Duck (not the ones that swim by). All the meat is smoked onsite to ensure the best quality and flavour. If smoked meats aren’t for you, chef also suggests the 300g King Island rump steak. Served with grilled broccolini, watercress, blue cheese butter and finished with a red wine jus. For dessert perhaps try the decadent chocolate fondant pudding, rich and delicious. Stephen takes particular care with all his dishes. Stephen uses only the finest quality ingredients and has a passion for cooking that is second to none that creates a dish that lets all the wonderful flavours of the ingredients delight the tastebuds.

In the future Stephen will be adding more local, seasonal and fresh fruits to the menu including, Apricots, Nectarines, Apples and Pears.
